Pinholes Coming Soon

Yesterday was Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day. I shot about 14 images, of which I'll pick one to upload to the gallery at www.pinholeday.org. Amee shot a roll as well, so she'll probably have the better shot to upload.

From Amee

Amee actually went out and did some shooting during the wonderful weekend. I didn't touch a camera all weekend.

Something to Ponder

Are you not a terrorist if you blow up an airliner belonging to Cuba? I mean, Cuba is our enemy, right? Is there a double standard in our government's War on Terrorism? I heard about this on NPR yesterday and thought I'd read more about it. I found this article from the LA Times--

Paste it in your browser and check it out. It raises some questions.

Full Confidence=Your Days are Numbered

It seems every time there's a flap about someone associated with the Bush administration, the President makes a statement expressing his confidence in their ability, innocence, etc. Rumsfeld mismanaged Iraq for four years; as the situation deteriorated and calls for his resignation mounted, Bush repeatedly asserted confidence in Rummy all the way up to his resignation. He expressed confidence in Scooter Libby (resigned! convicted!), in Harriet Meiers for the Supreme Court (rejected! resigned!), in Ambassador Bolton at the UN (rejected! appointed in recess then rejected!), and now he's expressing "full confidence" in Alberto Gonzales and former lackey Paul Wolfowitz, now at the world bank. They'd best be worried. The "full confidence" of Mr. President seems to be the signpost marking the end of the road is in sight.

They're Doing It All Wrong...

Reuters headline from today: "U.S. Voices Concern at Breakup of Russian Protests."
If they had confined the protesters miles away in fenced-in "Free Speech Zones," it probably wouldn't have been an issue.
"Russian police detained several hundred people in central Moscow...as they dispersed an attempt by President Putin's opponents to hold a protest march near the Kremlin."
Apparently, this is "heavy-handed," according to the White House. Nothing at all like the over 550 people protesting the Republican National Convention in New York in Sept. 2004, who were detained for well over 24 hours (some up to 60 hours) without seeing a judge (as the law requires).
I'm being somewhat facetious here, as there was a certain amount of police brutality involved in the Moscow arrests, but it is damn similar.

Arley O. Beckner

This is a picture of my paternal grandfather as a spiffy young man. Is he a "Fob" man or a "Dapper Dan" man?

Use Your Imagination

I took a Jones Soda Co. Carbonated Candy tin, drilled a hole in one side, snipped a piece of aluminum from a Bud Light can and made a pinhole in it with a sewing needle, and taped it inside the candy tin. I cut a piece of 35mm film about 2 inches long, stuck it in the tin (in the dark, of course) and taped up the ends to make it light tight. Using a piece of black tape for a shutter, I went out and made this black and white image. Beneath it is the pinhole camera itself. The camera cost me only the $1.98 for the candy, which was pretty tasty.

Double Take

The first pinhole image is another double exposure (I forgot to wind the film again) and the second caught a little wind motion in my full bloom bushes next to the house.

Salamander (or something)

I'm not sure if it's a salamander or newt, but due to the cold it sat perfectly still while I shot this picture.
